5 Components of anesthesia- (CAAAM)
• Loss of consciousness 

• Loss of autonomous reflexes 

• Amnesia

• Analgesia
• Muscles relaxation 

 

We are using multiple drugs to provide these 5 components of anaesthesia.

 

 

Inhalational general anesthetics: 

1. Gas – Nitrous oxide (N2O)
2. Volatile liquid – Isoflurane, Sevoflurane

 

Intravenous general anesthetics: 

1. Fast acting – 

• Propofol (It looks like milk)

• Thiopentone sodium

 

2. Slow acting –

• Benzodiazepine: Midazolam, Diazepam, Lorazepam

• Dissociative anesthetic: Ketamine

• Opioids: Fentanyl
