Internal carotid artery (ICA)

It is the branch of common carotid artery.

 

ICA divide into four parts (From neck to head)-

• Cervical part

• Petrous part 

• Cavernous part

• Cerebral part

 

In the blood supply of brain we study only 4th / cerebral part and it’s branches.

 

NOTE: Both vertebral, and Internal carotid artery are divided into four parts (from neck to head).

 

Branches of cerebral part of ICA-

• Anterior cerebral artery (ACA)

• Middle cerebral artery (MCA)
• Posterior communicating artery
• Ophthalmic artery– Supply to the eye ball.
• Anterior choroidal artery– Supply to the choroidal plexus.
