Prostate gland

• Prostate cancer - Most common site - Peripheral zone

• BPH - Most common site - Transitional zone (Periurethral zone)

Prostate gland can be approach through:

• Transvesical route (Freyer's)

• Retropubic route (Millin)

• Transurethral route (TURP - Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate)

• Through perineum

Mnemonic: RPM (Retro Pubic - Millin)

Monopolar and Bipolar TURP-

• Monopolar TURP: Glycine is used as the irrigating fluid in monopolar TURP. It is non-conductive, which allows the flow of electrical current to the prostate tissue for resection.

• Bipolar TURP: It uses normal saline (NS) as the irrigation fluid because it is electrically conductive, which allows the electrical current to flow between the loop and the sheath. Unlike monopolar TURP, this fluid does not cause electrolyte imbalances or TUR syndrome.
