Epiploic foramen / Foramen of winslow & Pringle maneuver

It’s an opening that connects the greater sac (general peritoneal cavity) with the lesser sac (omental bursa).

Anterior

Hepatoduodenal ligament,

which contains portal triad-

• Hepatic artery proper 

• Portal vein 

• Common bile duct (CBD)

Posterior 

• Inferior vena cava (IVC)

• T12 vertebra 

Superior 

Caudate lobe of the liver 

Inferior

1st part of the duodenum 

 

Pringle maneuver- 

• It is a surgical technique used to control bleeding from the liver. 

• It involves temporarily occluding the hepatoduodenal ligament, which contains the portal triad (the hepatic artery proper, the portal vein, and the common bile duct). 

• By compressing these structures, blood flow to the liver is temporarily halted, thereby reducing blood loss during hepatic surgery or when managing traumatic liver injuries.
