Epiploic foramen and pringle maneuver

1. Aka foramen of winslow


2. It’s an opening that connects the greater sac (general peritoneal cavity) with the lesser sac (omental bursa). 


3. Boundaries

Anteriorly: Hepatoduodenal ligament, which contains the portal triad (hepatic artery proper, portal vein, and common bile duct)


Posteriorly: Inferior vena cava (IVC), T12 vertebra 


Superiorly: Caudate lobe of the liver 


Inferiorly: First part of the duodenum 



Pringle maneuver- 

1. It is a surgical technique used to control bleeding from the liver. 


2. It involves temporarily occluding the hepatoduodenal ligament, which contains the portal triad (the hepatic artery proper, the portal vein, and the common bile duct). 


3. By compressing these structures, blood flow to the liver is temporarily halted, thereby reducing blood loss during hepatic surgery or when managing traumatic liver injuries.
