MRC grading system of muscle power

 - Muscle power grading is a system used to assess the strength of a patient's muscles. 

 - The grading follows the Medical Research Council (MRC) scale, which ranges from 0 to 5-

 

Grade

Description 

No contraction

No muscle contraction is visible or palpable.

Only contaction

No movement 

Muscle contraction is visible or palpable, 

but no movement occurs.

No gravity

Muscle movement occurs, 

but only when gravity is eliminated.

Against gravity

Muscle movement against gravity,

but not against resistance. 

4

Against resistance

Muscle movement against gravity and
some resistance, but the muscle is weak. 

5

Normal

Normal strength; full movement

against gravity and full resistance.
